Research trip to the Arctic for Adventures on Trains book six

Sam Sedgman and M. G. Leonard in the Arctic, standing on the boarder of Sweden and Norway.

One of the joys of writing during the pandemic has been the escapism. The Adventures on Trains books are a gentle kind of travel fiction that celebrate the places the trains travel through. It was wonderful to be able to escape to those places in my imagination as I wrote.

One of the challenges of writing the Adventures on Trains books during the pandemic has been the necessary limitations governments have put on travel. Where possible, Sam and I like to have been to the places we are writing about.

In October 2021 Sweden and Norway finally opened their borders to people travelling from the United Kingdom, Sam and I packed our rucksacks and booked our tickets on the Night Train to Narvik, the journey from Stockholm to the Arctic circle that our sixth adventure on a train will be based upon.

Here are some photos from our trip. We began devising the story whilst we were travelling. The sixth book will be publishing in October 2022. We’ll be revealing the title very soon and have started writing it already. There’s a good chance some of the scenes in the photos will end up in the book! I hope you’re going to love it.
